IV. Summary

Kenya is on track for a number of the global nutrition goal indicators. The stunting rate, down to 18%, is well below the African average and comparable to other countries in Eastern Africa. Prevalence of wasting has been consistently low. Exclusive breastfeeding has increased a lot, from 12% around the year 2000 to 61% in 2014 (latest available year). The country has a faster than average increase of per capita GDP, possibly a positive factor. The increase of school completion by girls, though still below 50%, may have impacted these positive trends too.

On the other hand, progress with anaemia among both children and women has flattened out. The stalled progress is allmost identical to that of other countries in the region. Like them, Kenya is off track for these goals. National averages for immunization, poverty and safe water access show no real progress. Regional differences may play a role.
