IV. Summary
Like other countries in the region, Burkina Faso enjoys decreasing rates of stunting. Progress towards the 2025 target needs to accelerate though to remain on track. The prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding, very low until the turn of the century, increased to 38.2 in reference year 2012. Since then it further improved to 57.9%. The country has a below average income per capita, without much increase over the last two decades. Still, Burkina Faso’s health sector’s success in improving coverage of immunization, nutrition and healthcare programs may have contributed to improvements in child nutrition alongside other programmatic improvements in the food security and education sectors.
